In addition to having served as Chairman of NYCHSRO/MedReview’s Board of Directors from 1981-1983 and remaining an active Board member, Dr. Pierson served as the President of the New York County Medical Society from 1978-1979. He was also a member of the House of Delegates at the AMA from 1979-1999. Dr. Pierson specializes in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine, which converge in Physiology and Radiation Biology via Biomedical Engineering. These interests led to a research career in Body Composition with side-ventures into Nuclear Cardiology and Bone Physiology. Dr. Pierson was named a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons where he has been working on NUH-based research since 1989.
Prior to that, his clinical career was centered on the Directorship of Nuclear Medicine at St. Lukes, 1961-1989. Dr. Pierson has risen to leadership roles in County, State, and national medical societies, in Quality Assurance agencies, and in Continuing Medical Education. He also launched a sub-specialty of Remedial Medical Education (RME) in 1989 which has had a major impact and is now part of the “Committee for Physician Enhancement”, operating in the US and Canada.
Dr. Pierson is another link in the long chain of outstanding leadership physicians that has graced NYCHSRO/MedReview through the years. The organization is fortunate to have his wisdom and experience to help guide it through the years and looks forward to working with him for many more years to come.
