Edgar D. Altchek, M.D.


Dr. Altchek is a board certified Plastic Surgeon and served from 1994-1998 as Acting Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center where he also served as President of the Medical Board. He received several awards from Beth Israel including the Leon Ginzburg Award in Surgery and the Norman Stoller Award in Surgery. He also served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery (Plastic) at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and was a member of the Plastic Surgery attending staff of the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Altchek is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the New York Academy of Medicine where he once served as Chairman of the Section on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Altchek has also been a Medical Expert Consultant for the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC).

Throughout his career, Dr. Altchek has been a prolific writer and has had numerous articles published on aspects of Plastic Surgery. His varied topics demonstrate the wide breadth of his experience and include such subjects as the management of various benign and malignant skin lesions, his experience with a variety of aesthetic and reconstructive surgical procedures, and issues related to the matter of Informed Consent.
